RACING: Most important: Sailing is a sport for all ages. You can be competitive or kick back and relax. Our Summer Racing Series at Oak Hollow Lake, High Point, NC extends from March through October, usually on the 3rd weekend of the month. All sailboats are welcome, including windsurfers. We thrive on improving our skills and are always willing to help newcomers set up and tune their boats and learn the racing rules.
INTERCLUB REGATTA: On the first Saturday of November, we challenge our good friends from the Lake Townsend Yacht Club for the Neil Benson Memorial Cup. These fun team races are held alternately at Lake Townsend and Oak Hollow Lake.
ANNUAL MEETING & AWARDS BANQUET: On the 3rd Saturday evening in November, we gather to feast and toast and roast the highlights and bloopers of the year. Awards range from trophies for the Racing Series to the “Yacht Nut” awards for accomplishment we hoped no one would notice. There may even be a “rookie of the year” award. At this meeting we elect our new officers and “pass the gavel”.
EDUCATION: OHYC members teach the sailing classes held at Oak Hollow Marina throughout the summer as well as a sailing class at High Point University. This is our Club’s income to supplement annual membership dues. It is hoped that all members will help in some way. We also try to improve our own proficiency with occasional seminars or discussions.
OTHER FUN THINGS: We are always open to suggestions for other fun activities or excursions.
