Sailing

Sailing is a great sport with a long tradition.  A white sail on the blue water, it is simply breathtaking.  From Marco Polo to Dennis Conner, we all belong to this mystical event, where our boats dance with the waves, our sails sing with the wind, and we simply watch in awe, this magnificent moment mother nature paints for us.

 OHYC Fun Day

To promote our club, we hold fun days during the season, where you can come aboard and sail with us.  These fun days include basic sailing events and fun for everyone.  There activities offer ample opportunities for individuals to experience sailing without risk or expense.  It is great way to try sailing and it is a good opportunity to meet us too.

Social Events

We enjoy many different social events including picnics at the lake, dinner at a local pub after the last Saturday afternoon race of each 3rd weekend in the month, parties at member’s houses, and the annual awards banquet.

 Monthly Newsletter

This is our monthly publication where we post articles related to sailing, upcoming events, current issues, race results.  It is a great way to keep in contact with all our members.  The most recent version of the newsletter is found in the members only section

 Racing

Sailing is an excellent sport for all ages, and we try to make sure that you enjoy this sport as much as possible.  You can be competitive, or kick back and relax as much as you want.  We race at Oak Hollow Lake, High Point, North Carolina every 3rd weekend during the sailing season.   Our summer racing season starts in March and last until October. Beginning in March 2007, we limit our racing to Saturday only, using Sunday as an optional Fun Day.

We have many types of boats in our club, from Sunfish, Monohulls and Catamarans.  We also have windsurfers competing.  We thrive on improving our skills and are always willing to help newcomers with setting up, tuning their boats, racing rules and tactics.

 Awards Banquet

This is our biggest event of the year.  We hold elections for the officers and present many awards.  We present serious awards, or a funny one.  We present a plaque to the top 2 finishers for the season for each class.  We have funny nut awards which make note of the unusual events or achievements of our dear friends.

Interclub Race

Every year Oak Hollow Yacht Club and Lake Townsend Yacht Club compete against each other to win the  NEIL BENSON MEMORIAL TROPHY.   The Race is held at Lake Townsend every other year and held at Oak Hollow Lake every other year when it is not at Lake Townsend.
